Waste-oil burner project

I'm building a waste-oil burner, primarily for melting metals and such. The project is still in prototype phase, I'm playing around with different sizes burn chambers, different ways of feeding the fuel, things like that.

31 July 2008 - Prototype testing

My buddy Willem came over to lend a hand, or rather, to lend his brain for suggestions and such. We tested a 1l fuel can as burn chamber, and the 5l with a reduced outlet. It went rather spectacular, as you can see from the following footage. Note these videos are shot on a Panasonic analog camcorder (onto tape), then captured on the PC with a video capture card. It's not excellent quality, but it's enough for my purposes.

Conclusion: We intend to build two of these things. One as small as possible, quite likely portable, and another with the 5l paint-can design (from solid steel though), reduced outlet, and a small exhaust to combine the output flames. We'll keep you posted.
